Focus Area: Mechanics of Materials

Material Mechanics is an experimental and computational field focused on behavior (both observed and predicted) of materials as they relate to the performance of engineering devices. Examples can be as benign as the tensile strength of a material or as exciting as the production of completely new material properties based on atomic level behaviors.

Research in this field spans the nanoscale with simulation of material such as nanomail as well as traditional prediction of properties based on grain boundry behaviors.
