Faculty Member William Hoff's research interests include computer vision and pattern recognition, with applications in robotics, video aided navigation, medical imaging, activity recognition, and augmented reality.

William Hoff received the B.S. degree in physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1978. From the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) he received the M.S. degree in physics in 1981 and the Ph.D. in computer science in 1987. From 1987 to 1994, he was a staff engineer at Martin Marietta, where he led research projects in robotics and target recognition. He joined the Engineering Division at the Colorado School of Mines in 1994 and is now an associate professor there, and also serves as associate division director. He teaches courses in digital electronics, microprocessors, image processing, and computer vision. His research interests include computer vision and pattern recognition, with applications in robotics, video aided navigation, medical imaging, activity recognition, and augmented reality. He is associate editor for the journal Pattern Recognition.
