Dr. D. Vaughan Griffiths is a Professor of Civil Engineering specializing in Geotechnical Engineering. Dr. Griffiths was born and raised in London, U.K. He received B.Sc., PhD and D.Sc. degrees in Civil Engineering and Numerical Methods in Geomechanics from the University of Manchester U.K. and an M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from UC Berkeley. Before taking his first academic job on the Civil Engineering faculty at the University of Manchester, he worked for a geotechnical consultant performing site investigations in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Dr. Griffiths’s current research at CSM is directed at finite element modeling of geotechnical problems across a spectrum ranging from classical areas of foundations engineering, to oil recovery geomechanics and probabilistic methods. He has authored or co-authored nearly 200 research papers and 3 textbooks. Dr. Griffiths is a licensed PE in the State of Colorado and a Fellow of the ASCE where he is active as a Regional Governor, and a provider of short courses for practitioners on finite element and risk assessment methodologies in geotechnical engineering.
