Anthony J. Petrella, receives a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program award

July 16, 2009; Anthony J. Petrella, assistant professor of engineering and director of Mines’ Computational Biomechanics Group, recently received a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program award. The CAREER Program offers NSF’s most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.
The award amounts to $400,000 over five years in support of an integrated research and education plan in human lumbar spine mechanics at Mines. CAREER proposals are peer-reviewed and recommended for funding based on their intellectual merit and on the broader impacts of the proposed activities. See the abstract on the NSF web site.
